Crisis Cleanup, an open-source disaster mapping application, directly connects relief and rescue to affected individuals. After a successful deployment during Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, relief organizations around the country and across the world began deploying it in large numbers. We created its brand identity, including the happy pins symbol.

We created a flexible suite of identifiers that are deployed depending on the situation. The primary identifier features the name and the happy pins symbol in tandem—a reference to people helping one another in a friendly, precise, and efficient manner. Alternatively, there are treatments that emphasize the URL and tagline. The bold, stacked format is no-nonsense, reflecting strength and order—two invaluable attributes during any disaster response.

We created a user interface prototype to give the visual identity context and provide design guidance for future phases of development.
