Memorial Sloan-Kettering is the country’s top cancer center. In 2011 they engaged us to design their annual report, but were looking for something different. Rather than a lengthy production, they gave us a handful of 100-word blurbs highlighting their achievements and asked us to come up with a way to utilize them. Our answer? Give us a few more and we’ll call it 10 steps closer.

The freedom we were given — whether due to procrastination or some other reason — allowed us to be scrappy and creative, and ultimately to produce something well outside of the status quo. The book was unique, took fewer resources to put together, and was super impactful.

The book used multiple paper stocks and a unique “short sheet” format that created interest and helped bracket the 10 achievements.
